Denise Humphreys Bebbington will serve as one of two Track Chairs for the Environment panels at the 2014 annual conference of the Latin American Studies Association to be held in Chicago.
Recent events
Together with colleague Javier Arellano of the Universidad de Deusto in Spain, Tony Bebbington organized a panel at the 2013 annual conference of the Latin American Studies Association held from May 30th to June 1st in Washington DC. The panel, titled “From Extraction to Development? Conflict and Institutional Change in Latin America’s Extractive Industries Boom” involved presentations by Tony, Javier, Denise Humphreys Bebbington (Clark) and Martin Scurrah (Centro Peruano de Estudios Sociales, Lima) and a commentary from Cynthia Sanborn, Director of the Research Center of the Universidad del Pacífico in Lima.
On February 13th, 2013 Tony Bebbington’s edited book Industrias extractivas, conflicto social y dinámicas institucionales en la región andina was presented at the Instituto de Estudios Peruanos in Lima. The commentators were Carolina Trivelli, Minister for Development and Social Inclusion, José de Echave of Cooperacción, and Gerardo Damonte of GRADE and the Catholic University of Peru.
