Several of my recently published essays have been on sexuality and human rights, including “The Enlightenment Origins of Sexual Human Rights” (The Germanic Quarterly, Summer 2020) and “LGBTQ Rights after the Report on Unalienable Rights” (Telos, Winter 2020).

In addition, I have been working on the far-right thinker, Julius Evola. “The Evolian Imagination: Gender, Race, and Class from Fascism to the Far Right” appeared recently in The Journal of Holocaust Research (2021). For a “behind the issue” interview on the subject, go to this blog post

I am the author of three books (Warm Brothers: Queer Theory and the Age of Goethe2000; Doctor’s Orders: Goethe and Enlightenment Thought, 2001; Peripheral Desires: The German Discovery of Sex, 2015). With Stephanie Yuhl (Holy Cross) and Joseph Cullon (WPI), I am the co-author of LGBTQ+ Worcester for the Record (2019). We also co-curated the exhibit of the same name at the Worcester Historical Museum. With Ivan Raykoff (New School University), I am the co-editor of A Song for Europe: Music and Politics in the Eurovision Song Contest (2007). I am also the editor of the 2011 special issue of Psychoanalysis and History called “Global Freud.”
