Date: 2013

Description:  This assessment report provides a community-based overview of Worcester residents’ challenges, coping strategies and barriers to addressing their mental health needs.  Among the challenges identified are economic stress, exposure to violence and trauma, substance use, medical comorbidity, non-Western mental health conceptions and stigma. The report found that mental health stigma was particularly pronounced in immigrant and refugee populations. This study concludes with recommendations to better address the mental health needs of the Worcester community. This project was part of the Worcester Division of Public Health’s ongoing Community Health Improvement plan (CHIP).
