Principal Investigator

Dr. Chandra Jack is an Assistant Professor of Biology at Clark University. She is a trained evolutionary biologist, receiving her undergraduate, MS and PhD at Rice University. Research in her lab seeks to understand how microbes influence plant fitness, functional traits, and population structure; how genetic variation is maintained through species interactions; and the consequences of these interactions under different environmental conditions.

Lab Assistants

My name is Sara Wheeler and I am a research assistant in the Jack lab. I am an undergraduate Biology major at Clark University in my Junior year. I plan on concentrating in mathematical biology and bioinformatics. My interests in biology are diverse but I am currently focused on ecology, conservation, and microbiology. In addition to working in the Jack lab, I also help out in the Tabima lab culturing microfungi, performing DNA extractions, and learning genomics. In my free time, I enjoy reading at coffee shops and spending time outdoors running and hiking!

My name is Adryana Hutchinson, and I am a junior double-majoring in computer science and philosophy at Clark University. I have a wide range of interests, but the things I am most focused on are web accessibility, web development, and architecture design/embedded systems. I also review computer security and nudging literature for the computer science department. Outside of class, I enjoy reading sci-fi, drawing, and 3D modeling!

I’m Christina, a senior at Clark pursuing an undergraduate degree in Environmental Science with a concentration in Environmental and Conservation Biology and a graduate degree in Biology. Outside of my work in the Jack lab, I am also conducting research for my Master’s thesis about the effects of fungal and wood extractives on honey bee health. I enjoy hiking, rock climbing, and mushroom hunting in my free time!

My name is Natalie Hanna and I’m a junior biology major at Clark University. I have many interests in biology but I am most interested in ecology and botany, especially how these fields relate to conservation efforts, sustainable resource management and horticulture.Outside of class, I can be found going for long walks, looking for interesting plants and animals outside, knitting, cooking and reading.

My name is Libby McNeil and I am an undergraduate Biology major at Clark University. I am working with Dr. Jack to complete a directed study in which I work as a research assistant in the lab and further study plant-microbe interactions outside of lab. My interests in biology are plant breeding, genetics, and microbiology. My dream job is to research, breed, and help grow the cannabis industry. In my free time, I enjoy working out, watching sports, and hanging out with friends.
