Formative Assessments: Notebook inputs, starters, homework/outputs, exit slips, checks for understanding, and group work. These are scaffolded assessments that should help build my students’ confidence through collaboration in low stakes activities.
Summative Assessments: Notebook checks will be my main way of keeping track of progress, I have started to randomly check homework as an incentive for completion. The students know that this homework check will be part of their grade too. The end of unit project will be a carbon cycle diagram that includes explanations, a drawing, and specific requirements that demonstrate understanding.
Students will know my grading system for notebook checks and self-assessments. I have developed rubrics for the major assignments, modeled examples of answers, allowed ample in-class time for homework and students can contact me through Engrade.
Students will be able to keep track of their progress through Engrade, notebook checks, and returned work. I will provide rubrics for the big assignments and disclose how many points an input is worth. I will use informal check-ins at the end of class and during transitions to see where people are.
