Unit Calendar
Provide a calendar of key learning activities, learning strategies, and assessments for your anticipated timeframe for the unit.
Week 1: Adaptations and environment
Students will engage in games, simulations, and skits to learn about structural and behavioral adaptations and how the environment relates to these adaptations.
Week 2: Natural selection, classification, and evolution
Students will reflect on their notebook entries and also complete a research project on an assigned animal. Students will share information about their animal research projects.
Week 3: Comparative anatomy, fossils, connection to evolution
They will learn about scientific classification and be able to contribute to a scientific classification tree for their class. They will look at fossils and begin to learn elements about comparative anatomy.
Week 4: Chicken wing dissection and more comparative anatomy
Leading up to the break, students will be learning more about how comparative anatomy relates to evolution. They will work on a lab report after a chicken wing dissection and complete some analysis questions.
