Overview

Below are guidelines for this section of your portfolio. When you’re ready, delete the text on this page and replace with your own content.

The overview should illustrate in a basic and compelling way the real life context of your teaching—the school and community, your students, your assigned teaching and curriculum responsibilities, and your personal background. This section will show your awareness of the institutional, social, cultural and personal dimensions of your teaching. Subsequent sections should show, to some extent, how you have taken them into account in your effort to teach your kids.

  • Setting and context: Follow the subsections using photos and documents as appropriate.
  • Photo montage: Include photos from setting and context here or add new photos
  • Self-portrait: What would you like to share about who you are and what brought you to teaching?

Examples

  • Draw on official documents from your school, such as the mission statement or a school brochure, as well as your own observations to give an idea of your setting
  • Provide demographics of the school
  • Consider photos or other illustrations of the school community and culture
  • Photos/artwork/written work of your students
