MA Teacher Professional Standards

Below are guidelines for this section of your portfolio. When you’re ready, delete the text on this page and replace with your own content.

As you know, in order to qualify for the MA initial teaching license your teaching practice must meet state professional standards for teachers, at a “proficient” level of quality (scope and consistency do not have to be at the proficient level for each standard). For purposes of your initial licensure, the professional standards are divided into “Six Essential Elements.”

You should explain and illustrate how you have addressed each of these elements. In your explanation you should be able to refer to concrete evidence located elsewhere in your Portfolio, particularly in the Teaching and Learning portrait and reflection on Growth in Student Learning.

Examples

  • Use your self-assessments and the formal assessments of your mentors made during the spring semester as a basis for your explanation of how you meet the professional standards.
  • You should refer to the artifacts located in other sections of your Portfolio as evidence to show how you have met each standard. The hyperlink function should serve you well!
