A photo with 10A after a little break!

University Park Campus School is located on 12 Freeland st in the Main South of Worcester, MA. It’s a generally economically disadvantaged area that is high in diversity in and plentiful in fantastic local restaurants. Many of the students’ families are heavily involved in their students’ learning. The students are very connected from spending years together as a small class community, and many of them even grew up in elementary school together. The school has a few parks located around it that students love to frequent when the weather is nice. I even got the chance to play a ton of ultimate frisbee with a group of my 10th graders after school fairly frequently at Clark University on their green.

Speaking of Clark, Clark played a massive role in the creation of UPCS, as well as it’s development still to this day. Clark offers immense resources to students and faculty at UPCS to get the students ready for things like college and life beyond school, as well as helping to provide the best school experience the students could have by offering up their spaces for things like school dances, pep rallies, and graduation. Clark is the reason I ultimately had the opportunity to work at the school this year. While I spent the last four years prior to this year living at Clark, I never truly understood the community of Main South until I became a part of it this year, and while I am initially from a different background as a white man from Hartford, CT, I’ve learned a lot about Main South and what makes it so special, and I’m proud to call it my home.
