March 25th, 1793

It has been roughly one year since the events pertaining to my family’s turmoil have taken place. The transition to this new home seems to me much of a blur now, and our previous life in Paris seems to become more and more like a distant fantasy. In spending so much time focusing on the survival of my blood kin, I have slowly come to the realization that life, as it is now, is how it always will be.

As I began to accept the horrors that I had caused to the ones that I love most, just about the only thing that could at least temporarily rid me of my depression occurred early today. My long lost and beloved Safie returned to me with a smile on her face, and seemed eager to join my family, despite our lack of power and wealth. For once, the meaning of my name, Felix, seemed to finally hold true. The chances of Safie discovering our new location at the bottom of society is nothing less than luck, and I intend to make her ventures worthwhile.

DeLacey and Agatha seemed wholeheartedly willing to integrate her into the family, even with our struggle to provide for just ourselves. Although they seem happy for me, I can’t help but notice a growing disconnection between my father and I. I refuse to let him think for a minute that he has failed in raising a son to be fortunate and happy, so I choose not to approach him with the guilt that strikes my heart. After talking with him today, and hearing him agree to letting Safie stay with us, my regrets only feel more and more pronounced. I can only hope that my name rings true one more time because if I somehow gain the chance to save my family just as they have saved me, I will assuredly act without even a second thought.
