About the Hadwen Arboretum

Obadiah Hadwen, an avid horticulturist, spent his entire life curating the Hadwen Arboretum: a sanctuary for both exotic and native trees, plants, and of course, fungi!  It was entrusted to Clark University so that it may “be forever kept for the purpose of educating students in Agricultural, Historical, and Arboreal knowledge both scientific and practical” just as Obadiah had wished. The Arboretum Advocates of Clark are dedicated to this project, spreading information about ways students can help preserve this isolated patch of beauty in the city. These pages highlight the fungi of the Hadwen Arboretum.

The Hadwen Arboretum has been an education outlet for over one hundred years, giving students and community members alike the opportunity to hike along its 6.4 acres; to conduct research and strengthen skills; and a chance to enjoy nature outside of the confines of city life. Within just seconds of entering the Arboretum, you’ll be able to find countless different species of trees, plants, fungi, and even animals. See if you can find the fungi pictured below!
