Trans Womanist Literature
Janet Mock, Author of Redefining Realness
The dominant white, patriarchal, and cis society silences marginalized groups across every medium, including literature. Still, it must be noted that trans people are also guilty of silencing minorities within their own community. Trans women of color are silenced in a variety of ways, such as their systematic exclusion and lack of representation in literature. This post, like the blog itself, aims to provide an intersectional lens. Below is a list of works of literature written by and about trans women of color. The corresponding links provide the most accessible way to view each piece. These narratives, taking shape in everything from sci-fi novels to collections of poetry, present diversity among trans voices.
