{"id":322,"date":"2014-06-14T01:09:21","date_gmt":"2014-06-14T01:09:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.clarku.edu\/mdavidson\/?p=322"},"modified":"2014-06-14T02:04:29","modified_gmt":"2014-06-14T02:04:29","slug":"progress-in-human-geography-paper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.clarku.edu\/mdavidson\/2014\/06\/14\/progress-in-human-geography-paper\/","title":{"rendered":"Progress in Human Geography paper"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.clarku.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2014\/06\/PHGcover.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-323\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.clarku.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/51\/2014\/06\/PHGcover.gif\" alt=\"PHGcover\" width=\"150\" height=\"195\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #111111\">A new paper out, co-written with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geosci.usyd.edu.au\/people\/st_iveson.shtml\">Kurt Iveson<\/a>, entitled &#8220;Recovering the politics of the city<\/span><span class=\"cit-sep cit-sep-after-article-title\" style=\"color: #111111\">:\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"cit-subtitle\" style=\"color: #111111\">From the \u2018post-political city\u2019 to a \u2018method of equality\u2019 for critical urban geography&#8221; out in <a href=\"http:\/\/phg.sagepub.com\/content\/early\/recent\"><em>Progress in Human Geography<\/em><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The paper actually preceded our other recently published paper in <a href=\"http:\/\/rsa.tandfonline.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1080\/13562576.2013.879775#.U5uf1fldX0Y\"><em>Space and Polity<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This paper uses Jacque Ranci\u00e8re understanding of politics to ask what makes cities political entities. We review existing urban geography debates to identify some of the defining features of urban politics and then subject them to critical questioning: are they actually political? The paper seeks to develop existing interpretations of Ranci\u00e8re\u2019s philosophy within geography to develop his \u2018method of equality\u2019 in order to recover the politics of the city.
