This golden rule is the basis of everything that we do, and the students know they have to follow this rule. Students are kind to one another, and we never say anything is “easy” because it might not be easy for everyone. This is just a short list of all the amazing norms and values, but one would have to come into room 119 to really understand our norms in our small community.

We follow a schedule each day that helps keep our values in check:

We start every morning with a morning meeting, and the “super kid” leads the meeting.

We count the days in school, and go over the word of the day.

We do a read-aloud each morning, and hold a discussion about the story.

Students do writing, which looks different every day, but students are always writing something.

After writing, students go to W.I.N which is a 45 minute block where students read in small groups with different teachers depending on their reading level.

Students go to lunch and recess.

Students go to their special (music, art, technology, and gym)

Students learn math in the end of the day, where we do stations where students rotate through.

Students then get ready for dismissal and for another day of learning 🙂

Students also are expected to follow Jacob Hiatt Magnet School expectations, which are also enforced within our classroom as well. These are: Self-control, Taking Responsibility, Being an Active Learner, and Showing Respect.

Here is a sign we have in our classroom that reminds us of the STAR expectations.

Norms and Values in Room 119 In our classroom, we believe in “the golden rule” which is to treat others the way you wish to be treated.
