Being a teacher is a special thing. People do not really know the joy of teaching until they have tried it themselves, including me. I decided to be a teacher in the 4th grade, and I stuck with it. I thought I knew what teaching was like. I was a camp counselor, I babysat, I volunteered in classrooms during my senior project in high school, and I worked in a daycare during my undergraduate career. I was not prepared for this year, but I thought I was.
Nothing compares to being a classroom teacher. In teaching, there is no perfect day. There is always going to be something you do not expect thrown at you. That is what is so special about it. Every day in teaching is a unique adventure. It forces you to be flexible. It pushes you outside your comfort zone. There is something so special about having 13 students and watching them grow from when they walk into your classroom in August. I am so glad I became a teacher, and stuck with my 4th grade dream. My 4th grade self would be very proud of me now!
