Reflections

Kerizma with the ‘feel better pillowcase’ she organized for my mentor teacher, Jill.

I feel immense gratitude to learn and grow with these incredibly vibrant human beings this year. Watching them each begin to embrace the excited and confident learners that are inside each of them has been a perspective-altering experience. The agency in communicating their emotions, ideas, and thoughts has changed the way they have learned to interact with each other. I feel almost a sense of frustration that I can not possibly go on to document every exciting bit of growth I’ve witnessed in each of my students. While I am immensely proud of them, my pride is not as important as their own. I frequently point out students’ progress to them, compared it to their current work, and ask them how they feel about their growth. Watching them develop pride and joy in their own growth is wonderful beyond anything I will ever be able to articulate.
