Worcester, Massachusetts

Worcester is situated on land that was initially inhabited by the Nipmuc people. As the second largest city in New England, with a population of just over 200,000. Worcester is known as a ‘de facto sanctuary city’ – meaning it holds policies similar to other sanctuary cities but does not label itself as one. These policies attract a large influx of immigrants to the community.

Main South is the neighborhood of Worcester where Woodland Academy is located, and where I have lived for the past five years.

Here are some of our (my students and I’s) favorite things about the neighborhood:

      • Boys and Girls Club
      • University Park
      • local restaurants like Saigon
