Teaching All Students

2A.3: Meeting Diverse Needs (explanation and evidence)

From my Summative Assessment Form:

Alicia was aware of the students in her classroom who were receiving ELL services as well as those who were on IEPs and 504 plans.  She made adjustments in her lesson planning and implementation to meet stated accommodations.  Specifically, she worked closely with the school professionals who puled students out (or pushed into her classroom) for targeted services to ensure success.  Alicia considered the wide range of student needs in her classroom as she planned instructional activities.

2B.1: Safe Learning Environment (explanation and evidence)

From my Summative Assessment Form:

Alicia used the established classroom environment to promote learning for all students.  She co-established classroom routines and procedures with her mentor teacher that provided a clear structure for learning.  As Alicia planned overall units and individual lessons, she considered how she might further promote the development of a safe and collaborative learning community.  Alicia regularly implemented classroom routines for morning meeting, transitions between subjects, bathroom procedures and managed movement from the classroom to other parts of the building efficiently.  She took the lead role in the classroom when her teacher was out of the room.  She also worked with the Assistant Principal and other teachers in the school to ensure consistency for the children in her classroom and the school community when she had a duty or was covering in other teachers’ classrooms.

2D.2: High Expectations (explanation and evidence)

From my Summative Assessment Form:

Alicia was aware of the individual student needs in her classroom.  She thought carefully about how she structured her lessons to promote achievement by all students.  She worked to design powerful learning activities that built on student capacities.  It was evident through her daily interactions with them that she wanted them to succeed and was willing to help them do whatever was necessary to meet success.  Part of that is promoting individual effort during instructional time.  Alicia learned a great deal from her mentor teacher about promoting positive attitudes and encouraging students to take ownership for their learning.
