In this unit, students connected with, analyzed, and formed opinions about presented information regarding the Midwest, Southwest, and West regions of the United States. Following three Nearpod presentations, students conducted a research project in groups, followed by presentations for the class. My essential question for this unit was What can we learn about the people, places, and cultures of the Midwest, Southwest, and West Regions of the United States? Students explored important historical figures, celebrities, and ethnic groups with a particular focus on Native American tribes, along with important landmarks, cities, industries, and other elements that make each region unique. Students were led through a series of interactive presentations where they discovered about the regions and formed personal connections with each through activities geared towards creating opinions and making choices. Students were then able to take those personal connections and use them to guide their research as they completed a Google Slides presentation with their group.
