{"id":259,"date":"2018-11-27T13:37:29","date_gmt":"2018-11-27T18:37:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.clarku.edu\/eportfolio-sample\/?page_id=259"},"modified":"2020-04-30T17:51:35","modified_gmt":"2020-04-30T21:51:35","slug":"curriculum-standards","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.clarku.edu\/mat20-klegare\/learning-teaching-portraits\/portrait-ii-overview\/curriculum-standards\/","title":{"rendered":"Curriculum Standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Science and Technology Engineering Standards<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><b>2.K-2-ETS1-3: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Analyze data from tests of two objects designed to solve the same design problem to compare the strengths and weaknesses of how each object performs.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>This standard was addressed in Lesson 3 where students got to test out different materials and ways of folding paper to determine which is the most effective for the project and to use in their final designs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>English Language Arts and Literacy Standards<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><b>2.W.7:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&nbsp;Participate in shared research and writing projects (e.g. read a number of books on a single topic to produce a report; record science observations).<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Students had to record their observations of tests as well as use their packets as science journals.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><b>2.W.8:<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&nbsp;Recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question.<\/span><\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Students used their tests as experiences to form ideas around improvements for their final model.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>2.W.10: <\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Write routinely for a range of tasks, purposes, and audiences.&nbsp;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Students wrote, drew, and labelled in their packets each day of the unit.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>2.SL.1:<\/strong>&nbsp;<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about grade 2 topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Students worked with one partner throughout the entire project. They had to collaborate in order to design and create models and test those models.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>2.SL.4:<\/strong>&nbsp;<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tell a story, recount an experience, or explain how to solve a mathematical problem with appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details, speaking audibly in coherent sentences and using appropriate vocabulary.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Students used this standard when they explain their thinking in a metacognitive way to decide what steps to take in their design process.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>2.SL.6: <\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Produce complete sentences when appropriate to task and situation in order to provide requested detail or clarification.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Students again had to communicate clearly with one another in their partnerships to be successful.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>2.L.1:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking; retain and further develop language skills learned in previous grades.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Students had to write and communicate every day for every step in the EDP.
