Lesson 1: Math Meeting Extension 9-1 and 9-2

This lesson is the first two meetings for the introduction to the topic. On Day 1, students will be introduced to the new topic. In math meeting, which happens before the lesson, students will get a chance to be introduced to the concept of hundreds and begin to think within the physical representations and pictorial models of hundreds to one thousand. This will prepare them for the introduction. On Day 2, students will get to supplement their math skills in conjunction with technological practice on the Chromebooks. The games available will allow students to develop number sense within 10 and with 3 digit numbers and practice old and new vocabulary, which they were introduced to on Day 1. By reinforcing the math meeting to suit these needs, students will have a stronger orientation to the entire topic and be able to build their skills in the front end of the unit. 

  • Students will be able to identify the number of days we have been in school and correctly change the place values to represent the new number. 
  • Students will be able to work on basic computer skills such as clicking, dragging, and scrolling.
  • Students will be able to count by hundreds to 1,000.
  • Students will be able to recognize and match definitions to relevant vocabulary words.
  • Students will be able to relate numbers within 10 to one another quickly.
  • Students will be able to add and subtract within 10 fluently and switch between the two seamlessly.
  • Students will be able to use algebraic thinking to find missing addends to 1,000.

Lesson 2: Math Meeting Extension 9-3 and 9-4

Over these two days, students will be completing lessons 9-3 and 9-4 from EnVisions. Before they dive into the content each day, we will meet briefly for a math meeting to go over the days we have been in school. We will also be completing a “Today’s Challenge” problem around topographic maps, then move right into our work on the Chromebooks. Students will complete the quick check for the previous lesson (9-2 and 9-3 respectively) and then get to use their extra time to play a new online game, “Gobbling 100s” where students have to collect bubbles worth 100, 10, or 1 to build a three digit number. While they finish, I will divide them into groups for Enrichment or Reteaching as an intervention based off of their quick checks and successes with the workbooks. After completing their assigned worksheets, students can work on the Common Core review for the day, clean up the Chromebooks and materials and transition to the new lesson’s bookwork.

  • Students will be able to model 3 digit numbers with place value blocks.
  • Students will be able to draw 3 digit numbers pictorially.
  • Students will be able to tell the value of a digit based on its place in a number.

Lesson 3: Math Meeting Extension 9-5 and 9-6

In this lesson, I would implement a similar style of meeting as in the previous lesson. We start with a brief discussion about how many days we’ve been in school. Students then continue with the Today’s Challenge problem and begin their quick checks. After they submit their quick check they may play Space Jump, a game about hundreds, basic addition, and spacial awareness. While they play,  I divide students into groups based off of their quick check results and previous observations. We then transition to either an intervention and reteaching activity of the previous lesson or an enriching extension puzzle. If time allows students may complete a Common Core review. We then clean up, and transition to traditional EnVisions book work. 

  • Students will be able to identify the number of days we have been in school and correctly change the place values to represent the new number. 
  • Students will be able to work on basic computer skills such as clicking, dragging, and scrolling.
  • Students will be able to read and write 3 digit numbers in expanded, standard, and word forms.
  • Students will be able to compare and contrast different ways to represent the same number. 
  • Students will be able to regroup hundreds into tens and tens into ones to show the same value.

Lesson 4: Math Meeting Extension 9-7 and 9-8

Ib this lesson, we will begin the same way we have been; with a brief meeting about how many days we have been in school, a Today’s Challenge problem, and a quick check from the previous lesson. The online game will be Greg Tang’s Place Value game where students must identify how many ones, tens, and hundreds are in certain 3 digit numbers quickly. On the first day, students will be split into intervention and enrichment groups like before. On the second day however, we will return to the rug for a whole group notice and wonder activity with skip counting and patterns. Students will identify patterns and compare results with each other.

  • Students will be able to work on basic computer skills such as clicking, dragging, and scrolling.
  • Students will be able to discover patterns and analyze them to solve problems.
  • Students will be able to use relevant vocabulary (e.g. digit, greater than, less than, standard form, expanded form, increase, decrease) to describe numbers and talk about math.
  • Students will be able to count by 1s, 5s, 10s, and 100s to 1,000.
  • Students will be able to compare the value of given numbers on hundreds charts, number lines, and by their place values.

Lesson 5: Math Meeting Extension 9-9 and 9-10

In this lesson, I will be finishing our enriched and extended math meetings. We will have our brief meeting about how many days we have been in school and update the place value chart. Students will then complete their quick checks and have the option of playing any of the online games we have played in this unit. I will break apart the students into groups for reteaching and intervention or extension and challenges. This allows my students to practice the exact areas they need practice and prepare for the online assessment at the end of the unit.

  • Students will be able to discover patterns and analyze them to solve problems.
  • Students will be able to use relevant vocabulary (e.g. digit, greater than, less than, standard form, expanded form, increase, decrease) to describe numbers and talk about math.
