Learning Activities

Refugee was a challenging text for my students, but together we found fun and creative ways to continue learning. Below are three learning activities we engaged in during this unit.

Learning Activity #1: Vocabulary was an essential aspect of this unit as the primary text used is a historical novel. Every Monday students would be given six vocabulary words related to our unit, they would complete and review vocabulary charts in groups, and on Fridays we would have a quiz.

Students read both versions of the poem, then used a Venn Diagram to find similarities and differences between the poems and our primary text. Finally, students explained their work in a short response paper.
