Below are samples of student work from our Civics and Government unit about what it means to be a good citizen.<\/p>\n

This is an example of a student’s community web they created. During this lesson students strived to identify which communities they are a part of and how they want to keep them.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Part of the culminating assessment was a group drawing to show what a good citizen looks like. By working off one another, this group created a drawing where citizens are picking up trash, flowers are planted, and money is being distributed.<\/p><\/div>\n

After a guest speaker called in to talk about her experience working with refugees at the border, this was a student’s response including questions. It shows her curiosity and dedication to learning more about the world.<\/p>\n

She says: “I found out that Jenny’s parents are immigrants and that she helps like more than 500 people and that you have to be good to be a good citizen. I found it interesting that the government is mad and he is lying. Are the people sad?”<\/em><\/p>\n

This is a student response to the first lesson of this unit in which they observed pictures of good citizens I put on iPads around the room.
