Second grade is incredibly pivotal time for students as they come to know themselves more deeply as readers, writers, mathematicians, engineers, and social beings. Above all else, however, I wanted my students to have the following key understandings as they embark on their journeys in life and school: 

• Students will be able to work collaboratively and communicatively in teams.

• Students will develop skills to harness their inquisitiveness and curiosity through question-making, conversations, and researching. 

• Students will be able to use words in reading, writing, and speaking that express their understanding.
