Learning Goals:
- Students will understand what qualities make a citizen “good:” they are brave, they are kind, they are helpful, they are confident, they are respectful, and they stand up for their people.
- Students will understand that it’s not just the behavior of people that make them “good” citizens but also their actions.
- Students will be able to identify actions that they can take which would make them a good citizen.
- Through this unit, students will come to know what it means for them to be a good citizen.
- I implemented a “Great Citizen of the Day” cerficate which I started handing out daily throughout the unit ot honor students’ committment to being a good citizen in the classroom, and for them to see the immediacy of this skill they were learning to apply.
- Students practiced skills of self-reflection, as social scientists do.
- Throughout this unit, students will be developing their ways of being as social scientists and more reflective citizens of our classroom.
