Understanding Goals

Learning Goals:

  1. Students will understand what qualities make a citizen “good:” they are brave, they are kind, they are helpful, they are confident, they are respectful, and they stand up for their people.
    1. Students will understand that it’s not just the behavior of people that make them “good” citizens but also their actions.
  2. Students will be able to identify actions that they can take which would make them a good citizen.
  3. Through this unit, students will come to know what it means for them to be a good citizen.
    1. I implemented a “Great Citizen of the Day” cerficate which I started handing out daily throughout the unit ot honor students’ committment to being a good citizen in the classroom, and for them to see the immediacy of this skill they were learning to apply.
  4. Students practiced skills of self-reflection, as social scientists do.
  5. Throughout this unit, students will be developing their ways of being as social scientists and more reflective citizens of our classroom.
