Performance Assessments

This unit will have two culminating assessments. The first culminating assessment will be constructed piece by piece each lesson. This will be an energy lab report. Each lesson will start with one day where the students will be introduced to new material and through those activities and class discussions we will create definitions and provide examples for each piece of content. The first four lessons will contain experiments (either completed in partners or groups), for each experiment the students will complete a relatively short lab report graphic organizer. This is appropriate as a way to assess the learning goals because it is essentially record of all of the new obtained information about the different types of reaction in energy flow.

The second more standard summative assessment I will be giving the students will be a multiple choice and short answer test. The test will be on the students Ipads through Google forms. This test will be full of pictures and space for the students to give examples from their life. This is a appropriate and necessary assessment of learning goals because the information/questions are being presented in a familiar format and is asses exactly what we have discussed in the past. As a requirement by the school I am required to give a type of numerical grade. Prior to starting this test the students will completing very similar reviews, this should set the students up to succeed even if the information they are being tested on was a few weeks previous.
