Worcester is one of the largest cities in New England. As of the last census there was 185,677 Worcester residents. This city contains a large immigration population from a variety of countries, specifically form El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Vietnam, and Albania. All of this diversity allows for the restaurants, music venues, schools, streets, and everything else which is involved in a city to be constantly changing and buzzing with activity.
An interesting aspect of Worcester is that it is able to house a whole bustling city while also housing over seven college and universities. Each establishment has varying relationships with the city around it and there is a definite relationship balance which is working to be maintained and improved.
My students over the past year are part of a subsection of Worcester called Main South. This area contains Main Street, Clark University, city hall and other notable places in Worcester.
While Worcester has gained a name for traditionally negative activities and overwhelming needs, the city is making active attempts to improve the city. Some of the efforts are systemic, while others are more “grass roots” focused. Watch the following video to get a better look at the City of Worcester and some of the tourist attractions.
