Curriculum, Planning, and Assessment

1A.4:          Well-Structured Lessons

During the fall CAP meeting, both my university mentor and my mentor teacher granted me ratings of “Proficient” in terms of having well-structured lessons. Please refer to my lessons in the Painting with Complementary Colors Unit for more information. This project was assigned to students in the winter and reflects my ability to develop well-structured and highly engaging lessons from the fall. My objectives were clear and appropriate for students; most students were engaged with the lessons; and the quality of the final product show an improvement in students’ art skills.

Since the fall, I have continued to prepare well-structured lessons. Please refer to my lessons in the Collage Diptychs Unit for more information. This project was assigned to students in late-spring and reflects my ability to develop well-structured and highly engaging lessons from earlier in the spring. I kept my lessons organized in a binder in order to reflect on their effectiveness, writing comments and suggestions for myself after each daily lesson.

1B.2:          Adjustment to Practice

During the fall CAP meeting, both my university mentor and my mentor teacher granted me ratings of “Needs Improvement” in terms of adjusting my practice to students’ needs. Please refer to my reflection for the Painting with Complementary Colors Unit for more information. This reflection from my lesson planning in the fall outlines my analysis of how the unit panned out and how I could use those results to determine progress for future implementations. One suggestion from the fall was to have more differentiated instruction based on continual assessments of student work for future projects.

Since the fall, I have used the information I gleaned from continual assessments of student work to add more differentiated instruction into my lessons. Please refer to my reflection for the Collage Diptychs Unit for more information. This reflection from my lesson planning in the spring outlines my analysis of how the unit panned out and how I could use those results to determine progress for future implementations. Especially in the two collage lessons, you will find that I included multiple modes of presenting the content as a means for differentiating instruction so all students could access the information. I also was flexible in adjusting the final product of the unit for students as another means for differentiating instruction.
