Painting with Complementary Color Schemes Unit:
- Students will be able to describe what a complementary color scheme is. They will be able to list all the different complementary pairs in the color wheel that include the primary colors. They will also be able to describe how to paint in the impasto style.
- Students will be able to paint in the impasto style while using complementary colors. They will also be able to use those skills to replicate an artwork by a famous artist in the same style as the original painting.
- Students will know who Van Gogh was and what his painting career was like. They will also be able to work together as a class to put together his painting accurately.
Collage Diptychs Unit:
- Students will be able to define what constitutes a work of art to be considered a diptych. They will be able to identify various kinds of diptychs that other artists have created as well as be able to create their own simple diptychs that utilize basic geometric shapes. Students will be able to demonstrate a sense of space in their diptychs that rely on their knowledge of shape.
- Students will be able to transform a reference image into simple geometric shapes, abstracting the image. They will demonstrate a sense of space in the first image of their diptych that relies on their knowledge of shape and color. They will know how to manipulate construction paper to build their collage.
- Students will understand the difference between surface and visual texture by creating and appropriately labeling their own rubbings of various textures. They will be able to transform a reference image, for the second time, into various textures. They will demonstrate a sense of space in the second image of their diptych that relies on their knowledge of texture. They will know how to manipulate magazine paper to build their collage.
