Students will be exposed to fact families through a poem, before trying out problems on their own. The next day they will practice fact families in small groups at four different centers. On the third day they will make a fact family house, finding the three numbers and equations using a pre-made cube train. To understand addition with three numbers, students will watch three classmates model a problem with their book boxes, before going into centers and exploring the concept. On Friday, students will make their own three number word problems using a template I provide.

How are addition and subtraction related?

Which patterns are found in these equations?

How do I solve equations with three addends?

To read more about my understanding goals click here

To read more about my rationale click here

To read more about the curriculum standards click here

To read more about my pedagogy click here

To read more about my performance assessments click here

To read more about my learning activities click here

To see student work samples click here

To see my references click here

Students will learn about fact families and addition with three numbers.
