By\u00a0allowing students to not only learn about realistic fiction, but also create their own stories, I hope to encourage students to\u00a0make deeper connections with the genre. During the unit students will also focus on making predictions, allowing them\u00a0to get involved with their own learning, and apply their knowledge about realistic fiction.<\/p>\n<p><u>Students\u2019 backgrounds and readiness:<\/u><\/p>\n<p>To make the unit more engaging I will begin by talking about the texts we have read as a whole class, and ask students\u00a0to sort them into realistic and nonrealistic stories. Throughout each lesson I will incorporate engaging literature and build on our shared texts. I will also\u00a0ask students to create their characters, plots, and settings as we learn about each literary aspect.
