Performance Assessments

Many of the assessments in this unit were done on the rug through discussion or demonstration. Students explained what vibrations meant and how they came to their thinking via the experiment. For example, in Lesson 2, students demonstrated vibrations for me. They showed me how to make sound and how to make their sounds stop. They then used their cups to show me a vibration and describe. All lessons ended with discussion. The key points of these discussions were then recorded on an anchor chart.Screen Shot 2016-05-01 at 11.29.40 PM

Other assessments were written after the lesson. After lesson one students filled out brief exit slips that they brought back to the rug. During Lesson 5 students wrote out predictions and made conclusions after the experiments. These varied assessments allowed students with different learning styles to show their understanding in different ways.
