Students will learn about fact families and addition with three numbers. Students will be exposed to fact families through a poem, before trying out problems on their own. The next day they will practice fact families in small groups at four different centers. On the third day they will make a fact family house, finding the three numbers and equations using a pre-made cube train. To understand addition with three numbers, students will watch three classmates model a problem with their book boxes, before going into centers and exploring the concept. On Friday, students will make their own three number word problems using a template I provide.
- How are addition and subtraction related?
- Which patterns are found in these equations?
- How do I solve equations with three addends?
