My goal is to challenge all of these students<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">and meaningfully scaffold for the students that are behind so they can be engaged. This<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">class has challenged me to put in place more routines and a more rigid grading heuristic<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">to ensure student engagement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Period 4- English Language Learners &#8220;Level 1&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">My ELL class is relatively small -about 12 students- but this allows for a good deal of<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">individualized attention. This number may change, as every month there seems to be a<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">new arrival with near &#8220;zero English&#8221;. My goals for these students is to a) Give them the<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">initial tools they need to competently navigate their way in a new country. b) Begin<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">developing academic literacy, that they will carry for the rest of their lives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Period 6- Spanish 5 &#8220;Honors Level&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">This was the first class I took over, they are an interesting mix of students ranging from<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">high-acheiving &#8220;Goddard Scholars&#8221;, to Native Speakers who are not performing as well<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">academically in other disciplines. The students are open to new experiences, and willing to<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">be challenged academically. This has pushed me to develop more thought provoking<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">lessons where the language is taught through the content, and both are seen as mutually<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">reinforcing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Period 7- Spanish 3 &#8220;College Level&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">A small class due to several students transferring out of the district. \u00a0This class is willing to<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">participate, but presents similar challenges to those of period 3, there is a very broad<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">spectrum of language development that makes accommodation more challenging. My<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">goal with these students is similar, to develop foundational elements of language, as well<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">as develop routines that will help promote academic literacy and challenge them to look at<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Spanish in a different light.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Period 3 &#8211; Spanish 3 &#8220;College Level&#8221; My newest class, a more quiet group that has a extremely diverse needs.
