Portrait III Overview

AcademicLiteracyCUP

In ESL it is difficult to really create set units, there is simply so much to cover to get students ready for not only being mainstream students the following year, but also giving them tools to navigate their new realities.

So I decided to build a unit around the central concept that is most relevant to their future success at South High: Building Academic Literacy.

Topics Covered:

-Learning Classroom Routines (Bell-ringers, Exit slips, Homework)

-Building our way up to our first book (From graphic novels to Greek mythology)

-Verbal / Aural Practice

-Public Speaking- What is your story

Learning Goals:

My learning goals are further outlined in my Growth & Learning section.

Ultimately my learning goals for these students is to get them as ready as possible for next year. When the students first arrive I am interested in getting them comfortable in our classroom community, teaching them about the school and the community, then working teaching them how to be academically successful. What do teachers expect, and how can I get help.
