{"id":346,"date":"2014-08-26T13:59:10","date_gmt":"2014-08-26T13:59:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.clarku.edu\/fisherville\/?page_id=346"},"modified":"2014-08-26T14:11:30","modified_gmt":"2014-08-26T14:11:30","slug":"degradation-of-bunker-c-oil-by-white-rot-basidiomycetes","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.clarku.edu\/fisherville\/projects\/degradation-of-bunker-c-oil-by-white-rot-basidiomycetes\/","title":{"rendered":"Degradation of Bunker C oil by white-rot basidiomycetes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This project was conducted by Darcy Young (now in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/phylodiversity.net\/azanne\/People.html\">Amy Zanne&#8217;s lab<\/a>\u00a0at George Washington University) as part of her master\u2019s research in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/hibbettlablog.wordpress.com\/\">Hibbett lab<\/a>\u00a0of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.clarku.edu\/departments\/biology\/index.cfm\">Biology Department at Clark University<\/a>, in collaboration with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.brown.edu\/Departments\/Engineering\/Labs\/Suuberg\/People.html\">James Rice<\/a>\u00a0at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.brown.edu\/Research\/SRP\/\">Brown University Superfund Lab<\/a>. We also extracted RNA from cultures of a fifth species,\u00a0<i>Punctularia strigoso-zonata<\/i>, grown with or without Bunker C oil present and assessed gene expression with RNAseq, taking advantage of the whole genome sequence of this species that has been generated by the US DOE\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/genome.jgi.doe.gov\/programs\/fungi\/index.jsf\">Joint Genome Institute<\/a>. GC-MS results indicate that the species we investigated were very effective at removing selected focal hyrocarbons, but transcriptome data were more ambiguous.
