What I have somewhat arbitrarily called &#8220;Version 1&#8221; reads more like a book review, whereas &#8220;Version 2&#8221; reads more like Earl Davis&#8217; more considered thinking on this subject, still referencing the book, but also presenting more of his own views on the subject. Both versions are below.
