{"id":216,"date":"2015-09-23T14:28:15","date_gmt":"2015-09-23T19:28:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.clarku.edu\/bkorstvedt\/?page_id=216"},"modified":"2020-10-18T20:02:11","modified_gmt":"2020-10-19T01:02:11","slug":"bach-to-bach-an-informal-festival","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.clarku.edu\/bkorstvedt\/bach-to-bach-an-informal-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"Bach to Bach 2015:  an informal festival!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><em>&nbsp;Bach to Bach 2015<\/em>:&nbsp; an informal festival at Clark University<\/h2>\n<p>Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) may be the most inexhaustible of all composers.&nbsp; His music continues to fascinate every musician, from student to expert, amateur to professional, across genres, instruments, and styles.&nbsp; And his music always richly rewards the effort to explore, master, and enjoy it.&nbsp; Bach was and is truly a universal musician.<\/p>\n<p>This semester we offer a splendid assortment of his music in performance, including a concert of sonatas, a solo cello recital, a concerto evening, a special performance of his magnificent <em>Art of Fugue, <\/em>and to top it off, a Bach cantata sung by the Clark University Chorus.<\/p>\n<p>All concerts take place on the Clark University campus and are free and open to the public.&nbsp; Please join us for some or all of these events!<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Bach Consort in Concert<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Bach Consort of Worcester is a dynamic string group dedicated to the performance of the music of J.S. Bach and other composers of the Baroque period. &nbsp;The program will feature the concerto for oboe and violin in C minor, BWV 1060 and the famous Bach Double Concerto, BWV 1043.<\/p>\n<p>Michelle Graveline, Artistic Director, Peter Sulski, violin soloist.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday, September 25th 2015 at 7:30 p.m. in Razzo Hall<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bach\u2019s Art of Fugue in Color<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Johann Sebastian\u2019s Bach\u2019s <em>Art of Fugue<\/em> is one of his last great masterpieces.&nbsp; As Bach\u2019s final, encyclopedic exploration of the art and science of counterpoint and fugue, it has left a great legacy to the future.&nbsp; The final fugue was left unfinished at the composer\u2019s death, and has thus posed fascinating riddles ever since.&nbsp; And the performance of this highly intricate, deeply beautiful score presents a wonderful series of challenges and opportunities to performers and listeners alike.&nbsp; This performance will embrace and celebrate Bach\u2019s <em>Art of Fugue<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Featuring Frances Conover Fitch with Arcadia Viols and guest instrumentalists<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. in Razzo Hall<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In addition, Frances Conover Fitch and members of the Arcadia Viols will offer a pre-concert demonstration for students at 4:00 in Razzo Hall. Interested members of the university community and the public are free to sit in.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>An Evening of Bach Sonatas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>with Peter Sulski on violin\/viola, Ariana Falk on violoncello, and Andrus Madsen on keyboard. The program will include Violin Sonatas by J.S. Bach, a Trio by C.P.E. Bach and a Viola da Gamba Sonata by J.S.
