Gibraltar
Gibraltar is a name shared by the strait where the Mediterranean Sea connects with the Atlantic Ocean and the Peninsula classified as British overseas territory that reaches into it. It has belonged to the British since 1704 and is a point of naval and economic power for its control over the narrow strait between Europe and Africa.
Ceuta
Ceuta is an autonomous (classified in its own region) Spanish city on the African continent. It is bordered by Morocco on all land-sides. It generally shares a lot of Spanish history under Phonecians, Romans, Umayyads, Portuguese, and when Moroccos independence was recognized, Spain maintained that Ceuta continued to be under Spanish rule. Ceuta was considered a part of Cadíz until its 1995 autonomy.
I originally wrote these as footnotes, but for more information I would recommend checking out Britannica’s overviews on Gibraltar and Ceuta.
