{"id":331,"date":"2025-10-17T19:16:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-17T19:16:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.clarku.edu\/aesposito\/?page_id=331"},"modified":"2025-10-17T20:58:57","modified_gmt":"2025-10-17T20:58:57","slug":"comet","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.clarku.edu\/aesposito\/comet\/","title":{"rendered":"COMET"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>C<\/strong>omprehension <strong>O<\/strong>f <strong>M<\/strong>agnitude in <strong>E<\/strong>lementary&nbsp;<strong>T<\/strong>eaching (COMET)<\/p>\n<p>COMET focuses on how children develop their understanding of different numbers such as fractions and decimals and how this understanding relates to their math achievement.<\/p>\n<p><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">This project investigates effective teaching methods for elementary school students\u2019 conceptual integration of rational numbers across notations. The results of the pilot study conducted in 2025 found that students who were taught conceptual integration across fraction and decimal magnitudes using a number line performed better on a rational number quantity comparison test than students who were taught to conceptualize fraction and decimal magnitudes separately.
