The report is the work\u00a0of an independent delegation organized and coordinated\u00a0by the Peru Support Group (PSG), a UK\u00a0based membership organisation. The PSG\u2019s interest\u00a0in mining led it to sponsor a meeting in the Houses<br \/>\nof Parliament in March 2006, which showed significant\u00a0disagreements between Minera Majaz and\u00a0local citizens\u2019 organisations regarding the dynamics\u00a0of environment and development around the company\u2019s<br \/>\nexploration activities. With the agreement of\u00a0Monterrico Metals, the delegation was organized to\u00a0form a third party view on these differences of opinion,\u00a0and on the broader development effects of the\u00a0investments and activities of this UK based company\u00a0&#8211; both the effects to date, and those in the future.\u00a0The case is also emblematic of broader issues in<br \/>\nthe relationships between mining, society and development\u00a0that are relevant to the operations of other\u00a0British mining companies in Peru.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>| By A.
