{"id":668,"date":"2015-02-24T15:02:03","date_gmt":"2015-02-24T15:02:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lyndonestes.princeton.edu\/?p=668"},"modified":"2020-02-02T15:49:38","modified_gmt":"2020-02-02T15:49:38","slug":"aaas-session","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.clarku.edu\/AIRG\/2015\/02\/24\/aaas-session\/","title":{"rendered":"AAAS Session on New Earth Observing Methods"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.clarku.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/551\/2015\/02\/AAAS1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-681 size-full alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.clarku.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/551\/2015\/02\/AAAS1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"108\" height=\"106\"><\/a>My Valentine&#8217;s day this year was spent en route to San Jose, where I attended the AAAS meeting to convene a session on &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/aaas.confex.com\/aaas\/2015\/webprogram\/Session9691.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Advances in Earth Observation: Enabling New Insights into Global Environmental Change<\/a>&#8220;, featuring <a href=\"http:\/\/geog.umd.edu\/facultyprofile\/Hansen\/Matthew%20C.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matt Hansen<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bren.ucsb.edu\/people\/Faculty\/kelly_caylor.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kelly Caylor<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/kellylab.berkeley.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maggi Kelly<\/a>. The goal of the session was to illustrate how new methods and hardware, such as advanced parallel processing, in-field environmental sensors, and data integration platforms, are starting to fill in the spatial and temporal gaps in our current abilities to observe ecological processes.
